It was over eight years ago when we first provided our Cairns website design services to this local business and our working relationship must have clicked because, with this new website just going online today, we have now completed 7 websites for the same business.
Fortunately, Will, the owner of Cairns Pool Service, knows when a website works because it directly relates to business enquiries. Now, with a desire to expand the business and take on more clients, the brief from our client for this new Cairns website design project was simple: 'Just do what you guys do best and get me more clients.'
Our plan to meet this objective was a multi-stage approach using different methods. The first crucial step was to redesign his old website version. Although his previous Cairns website design version was excellent, it was built by us more than 6 years ago. Think of a website having an age rate of dog years and you'll get the idea as to why an old platform website is almost as bad as a WordPress site from today.
This is just the natural progression of technology though and it all advances at a rapid rate. Things that change in the Cairns website design industry include algorithms that search engines use to rate and rank websites, screen resolutions and the styles of devices people are using along with the code elements that make up the website itself. When an old website stops fulfilling the requirements of the above factors and more, it starts to decay.
A decaying website will effectively erode away from the favour of search engines. Ultimately, a good search engine is only as good as the content it delivers, so Google, and the others, often put ultimations on website developers and designers to keep up with technology or suffer.
We've seen this type of thing happen in the past. For example, in early 2015 Google announced that if a website isn't mobile friendly by April 21st of that year, those websites will now appear lower in search results, and in some cases be completely excluded.
Another example is at the end of 2017 Google gave another ultimatum, that it would deliberately not favour non SSL websites. (Security Certificate Secured - When you see https:// instead of http://)
But it isn't just Google who do this. All of the purveyors of the technology we are so reliant on have a vested interest in continually advancing the industry.
