After completing the video production from last month, we've now moved Dr. David Shepherd at OrthoShep from Google Ads over to the YouTube network. We've established a campaign to advertise their new video asset as a skippable in-stream placement on YouTube for viewers in the Cairns & Atherton Tablelands regions.

We've also selected an over 45 year old demographic of both male and female with an income in the top 10% in the region. As a private surgeon, we don't want to waste our clients budget showing his ads to an audience who can't afford his services.

Another important step to consider when setting up a marketing campaign on YouTube is to establish an exclusion list of YouTube channels that we don't want the ads to appear on. For this, we've compiled a growing list of more than 10,000 YouTube channels that are designed for children. These could be channels such as The Wiggles, Pepper Pig, Nursery Rhymes for Toddlers and so on.

The reason why we exclude these channels from displaying our client advertising is obvious, children and toddlers certainly don't make buying decisions. The other main reason for this is because the cost of displaying ads on children's YouTube channels is the cheapest cost per view, and a campaign budget will be quickly attributed to a YouTube advertiser who hasn't excluded these children's channels.

So while a campaign will get plenty of impressions and views with children's YouTube channels included, the budget is effectively wasted as the ad will pop-up while a 3 year old is watching nursery rhymes on YouTube.
